Barn Croft Primary School

Home Learning at Barn Croft

Barn Croft is a vibrant, enthusiastic, forward-thinking and safe learning environment in which pupils are given every opportunity to complete a fulfilling education.

We believe that homework plays an important part in education and the benefit of doing homework must be instilled at Primary School age so that independent study can be achieved.

We are also aware that pupils have opportunities and experiences outside of school that are equally important in developing and enriching their lives. We will give careful consideration to ensuring homework is well-balanced across the school.

Reading

At Barn Croft, all staff acknowledge the importance of reading for pleasure and want to promote this as much as possible! We ask children to read daily and for this to be logged in Reading Records three times a week and signed by parents once a week. All children who are still accessing our phonics program, Read Write Inc, bring home a decodable phonics book and a reading for pleasure ‘share’ book.  Children also have access to school library if they wish to choose and additional book of their choice.

Maths

All children have a log in for NumBots/TTRockstars.  Numbots is used in Early Years and Key Stage 1. It is an Online Learning Platform that has been specifically designed to support your child’s addition and subtraction skills.  Click here to log in to NumBots

Times Table Rock Stars is used at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and is used to develop children’s recall of their times tables as well as building their fluency in multiplication and division. Click here to log in to TTRockstars

Pupils with SEND

A balanced approach to homework will be adopted for pupils with SEND, in consultation with the pupil’s parents and the SENCO.

Where appropriate, the school will set adjusted or specific tasks for pupils with SEND as outlined in their individual education plans.

While pupils with SEND may benefit from differentiated tasks separate from the homework received by other pupils, they will also complete as much standard homework as possible.
