Barn Croft Primary School

School Meals

School meals are a great way to be sure your child is eating a healthy and well-balanced meal during the school day. Our school meals are prepared and cooked fresh every day in our own kitchen. There is always plenty of choice with two or three savoury choices including vegetarian options, halal meat and a daily salad bar. Our cooks also prepare a daily pudding or thereis the option of fresh fruit or yogurt. Our kitchen is proud to use all organic ingredients. The menu changes termly so that it includes seasonal changes.

All children in state-funded  primary schools are currently entitled to free school meals, regardless of whether their families get qualifying benefits or not. However, the school can miss out on vital extra funding if children that would normally be entitled to free school meals through the criteria below, do not apply for this.

You should apply for this if they go to school in Waltham Forest, and you or your partner get one of the following incomes:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • The Guarantee Credit element of State Pension Credit
  • Support from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS)
  • Support from the local authority Social Services Asylum Team (SSAT)
  • Working Tax Credit for four weeks after your employment finishes
  • Child Tax Credit, provided that:
  • you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit (but see below), and
  • your annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) is £16,190 or less

We’ll then be able to confirm throughout the year whether your child’s school is entitled to pupil premium funding for your child.

Waltham Forest Catering have launched a new catering website, please take a look; https://www.walthamforestcatering.co.uk/

Packed Lunches

The second option if you prefer is for your child to bring a healthy packed lunch to school.  We encourage all our pupils to have a healthy lifestyle and therefore fizzy drinks, chocolate and sweets are not allowed and we do not have  the facilities to reheat food from home. A guide to healthy Packed Lunches can be downloaded below.
